Ups and Downs Southwest

Ups and Downs Southwest is a registered charity providing understanding, support, information, and advice to children with Down Syndrome and their families. We are based in Somerset but have an ever increasing membership currently encompassing families from BANES, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Herefordshire, Monmouthshire and Wiltshire.

Ups and Downs Southwest began as a parent support group in 1997 and has always carried at its core, the need and desire to support children with Down Syndrome and their families to the very best of its ability.

The organisation continues to be parent led and so is able to provide complete empathy and understanding alongside information and advice.

We ensure that our global and holistic service to families is tailor made to meet their needs.

People vary enormously in their reaction to the news their baby has Down Syndrome and many find themselves struggling with grief and despair in the first days and weeks. We are able to support parents through this particularly difficult time with home visits, up to date information, an understanding ear and lots of beautiful pictures of children who have Down Syndrome. We can show parents that their little girl will be beautiful and their little boy will grow into a handsome young man to be proud of!

We now run preschool groups and Youth Clubs alongside the many other services and support we provide – Please go to our website at to see a little more about who we are and what we do!

We rely entirely on grants and donations and are forever grateful to those who take the time and effort to raise money for us.

Help us to be there for these special children and their families. Through our specific and targeted information support and training we are “Helping with today and working for tomorrow” – and changing those tomorrows for the better!

By pledging to do a sponsored parachute jump you can raise money for Ups and Downs Southwest and have the experience of a lifetime. Jumping from a perfectly serviceable aeroplane takes a good deal of courage. Just ask your friends, family and work colleagues how much they are prepared to pay not to jump out of an aircraft, and put that money to the cause.

Book your jump and start fundraising now!
